Orthodox Icon of Saint Seraphim of Vyritsa — A 20th-Century Wonderworker and Spiritual Guide
🕊️ The Saint of Our Times – Miracle Worker, Prophet, and Intercessor

This handmade icon honors Saint Seraphim of Vyritsa, one of the most beloved Russian saints of the 20th century. Canonized by the Russian Orthodox Church in 2000, he is known as a great ascetic, spiritual father, and intercessor for those in need. His life is a powerful testimony of complete dedication to Christ and love for the suffering people of his homeland.

From Wealth to Holiness — A Life Transformed by God

Born Vasily Nikolaevich Muravyov in 1866, he came from a devout Christian family and rose to become a successful fur merchant by the age of 26. Yet despite his wealth, his heart longed for the Kingdom of Heaven. In 1895, following the death of their daughter, he and his wife chose to live in spiritual purity, preparing for monastic life.

During the chaos of the Russian Revolution, he lost his worldly possessions but chose to remain in Russia, sharing the people’s suffering instead of fleeing abroad. His humility and self-sacrifice became a beacon of faith during dark times.

Monastic Struggle and Prophetic Gift

He took monastic vows under the name Barnabas and later received the Great Schema, becoming Seraphim — in honor of Saint Seraphim of Sarov. Endowed with the gift of foresight, he prophetically foretold future Church persecutions and the election of Patriarch Alexy I.

In his final years in Vyritsa, despite severe illness, Saint Seraphim continued to receive people seeking spiritual guidance. During WWII, he undertook the difficult ascetic feat of prayer while standing on a stone — praying day and night for the Russian people’s salvation.

Venerated in Life and After Death

Saint Seraphim peacefully reposed on April 3, 1949. Even in his lifetime, people venerated him as a saint, and his grave became a pilgrimage site. He was officially glorified by the Russian Orthodox Church in October 2000.
