This Orthodox icon of Saint George the Victorious with scenes from his life (known as with border miniatures or “kleima”) is a reproduction of an original masterpiece from the early 13th century, preserved in the Monastery of Saint Catherine on Mount Sinai, Egypt.

Saint George, one of the most beloved Christian martyrs and warriors of faith, is depicted in the central panel as a courageous soldier of Christ, the great dragon-slayer and defender of the Church. His name “the Victorious” (Pobedonosets) reflects his role as a spiritual warrior who triumphs over evil, darkness, and persecution.

Around the central figure are smaller narrative scenes (kleima) illustrating the life, miracles, and martyrdom of Saint George. These include his steadfast confession of faith before pagan rulers, his imprisonment and tortures, divine miracles performed through him, and ultimately his glorious martyrdom for Christ. Each scene serves as a testimony to his unwavering courage, humility, and devotion to God, inspiring the faithful in their own spiritual struggles.
