Icon of Saint Sergius of Radonezh with the Holy Trinity – Museum-Quality Russian Orthodox Icon reproduction, Dikarev Workshop, Late 19th Century

This exceptional Orthodox icon depicts Saint Sergius of Radonezh, the great Russian wonderworker and spiritual father of the Russian land, with the image of the Holy Trinity placed above him. The icon was created in the late 19th century in Moscow, Russian Empire, in the renowned workshop of the iconographer Mikhail Ivanovich Dikarev, whose works are distinguished by high artistic quality, strict adherence to canon, and profound spiritual depth.

Iconography

At the center of the composition stands Saint Sergius of Radonezh (1314–1392), founder of the Trinity–St. Sergius Lavra, spiritual guide of princes and common people alike, and a tireless intercessor for Holy Rus’. He is shown in monastic garments, with a humble and peaceful countenance that radiates inner wisdom, meekness, and prayerful contemplation.

Above Saint Sergius is depicted the Holy Trinity, the central mystery of the Christian faith. This iconographic arrangement is deeply symbolic and reflects the saint’s entire spiritual path. Saint Sergius dedicated his life to the contemplation and glorification of the Holy Trinity and founded the first monastery in Rus’ consecrated to the Holy Trinity, teaching that “by contemplating the Holy Trinity, the fear of hateful division in this world is overcome.”

It was Saint Sergius’ spiritual disciple, Saint Andrei Rublev, who later painted the famous icon The Trinity, the pinnacle of Russian iconography.
