The iconography of the icon of Jesus Christ "Prayer for the Chalice" is based on the event preceding the arrest of the Savior and His martyrdom on the cross. Knowing about the imminent ordeal and betrayal of his disciple Judas, he went to the Garden of Gethsemane to spiritually prepare for the upcoming terrible events. Jesus asked the apostles who accompanied him to support him and to watch beside him during his prayer.
Ordinary people should behave in the same way in difficult situations. A sincere petition addressed to the Lord will help overcome despair, strengthen the spirit and give strength. Only a humble request for help and faith in the Lord will overcome the trials determined by the Higher Powers.
