Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker, Archbishop of Myra in Lycia (4th Century)

The most beloved and widely venerated saint across the Christian world, Saint Nicholas is a universal father and protector. Known for his boundless mercy, he secretly provided dowries for impoverished girls, saved unjustly condemned men from execution, and calmed storms for sailors. As a bishop, he was a zealous defender of Orthodoxy against the Arian heresy. His life is a perfect blend of severe asceticism and active, compassionate love for all in need. He fought against the iconoclast heresy, boldly defending the veneration of holy icons. His life demonstrates a victorious journey from worldly service to heavenly glory through prayer and struggle.
