Saint Venerable Abbot Methodius of Pesnosha. Wooden orthodox icon.
The founder of the Peshnoshsky Monastery (Russia), Saint Methodius, received instructions from Sergius of Radonezh himself before going into the forest for solitude. However, fate decreed otherwise - soon he was joined by disciples wishing to follow his example. On the advice of Sergius of Radonezh, a decision was made to build a monastery. Saint Methodius personally participated in the construction of buildings, even carrying logs across the river, later called Peshnosh.
Since 1391, Saint Methodius became the abbot of his monastery. At times, he would move two miles away from the monastery and labor in prayer here, and Saint Sergius would come to him for spiritual conversations, which is why this area was called "Conversation".
Saint Methodius was buried († 1392) in the monastery he founded. In 1732, a church in the name of Saints Sergius of Radonezh and Methodius of Peshnosh was built over his relics. The beginning of the local celebration dates back to the end of the 17th – beginning of the 18th century.
