This wooden Orthodox icon depicts Saint Paul the Apostle, one of the greatest proclaimers of the Christian faith. The original icon was painted in 1862 by the renowned iconographer Vasily Makarovich Peshekhonov, a master of the 19th-century Russian ecclesiastical tradition. Today, the icon is preserved in the State Museum of the History of Religion in St. Petersburg, where it is valued for both its artistic craftsmanship and its spiritual depth.

In this icon, Saint Paul is portrayed as the fervent preacher of the Gospel—wise, ascetic, and illuminated by divine truth. His thoughtful gaze reflects the inner fire that transformed him from Saul the persecutor into Paul the Apostle, chosen by Christ Himself on the road to Damascus. The image is created using direct artistic multi-layer printing with mineral pigments, then protected with beeswax for durability.

The icon board is prepared by hand, and the back side is finished manually with a brush.
