Saint Olga, Equal-to-the-Apostles, Princess. Wooden orthodox icon.
On July 24, the Church honors the memory of Saint Equal-to-the-Apostles Princess Olga, named Helena in holy baptism.
Saint Princess Olga ruled the Old Russian state from 945 to 960 as regent for her young son Svyatoslav, after the death of her husband, the Kyiv prince Igor Rurikovich. Olga was the first ruler of Rus' to accept Christianity. Saint Equal-to-the-Apostles Princess Olga is prayed to for the strengthening of the Christian faith and for the deliverance of the state from enemies.
Saint Olga is also revered as the patroness of widows.
