This Orthodox icon depicts Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker, Archbishop of Myra in Lycia—one of the most beloved and widely venerated saints in the Christian world. The original icon dates to the 19th century and was created in Syzzran, Russia, representing a fine example of Russian provincial icon painting. Today, the original is preserved in a private collection and valued as a work of museum quality.

At the center of the composition, Saint Nicholas is shown in full episcopal vestments, blessing with his right hand and holding the Gospel in his left. His calm and compassionate face reflects wisdom, mercy, and spiritual authority.
Traditionally, Christ appears on one side offering the Gospel, while the Mother of God appears on the other presenting the omophorion. This iconography recalls the miraculous event at the First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea (325), when Christ and the Theotokos restored Saint Nicholas’s episcopal dignity after his imprisonment for defending Orthodox truth.

On the margins of the icon are depicted Saint Martyr Agathonicus of Nicomedia and Saint Martyr Justina, suggesting that this icon may have been commissioned as a name or family icon, honoring personal heavenly patrons.
