Saint Hierarch Tarasius, Patriarch of Constantinople (784–806), is honored as a wise shepherd, a defender of the Orthodox faith, and a model of integrity and humility. Born into a respected and educated family, Tarasius served in the imperial administration before being called unexpectedly to the highest ecclesiastical office. Despite his reluctance, he accepted the patriarchal throne out of obedience to God and out of love for the Church.

During a time of turmoil — when the iconoclastic controversy threatened the unity and doctrine of the Christian world — Saint Tarasius became a pillar of Orthodoxy. He presided over the Seventh Ecumenical Council in Nicaea (787), where the veneration of holy icons was triumphantly restored. His wise leadership, spiritual discernment, and unwavering commitment to truth helped bring peace to the Church and heal the wounds of heresy.
