Saint Great Martyr Paraskeva Friday of Iconium. Wooden orthodox icon.

Christ is depicted here in a picturesque manner with eyes full of sadness for us sinners.

Original icon: 16th century. Now located in the Cherepovets Art Museum.

Paraskeva (Greek - Friday) is a Christian saint, a great martyr who suffered during the persecution of Christians under the Roman Emperor Diocletian for refusing to renounce the Christian faith and was beheaded by the governor of the Roman province of Iconium. Paraskeva is considered the patroness of many traditional women's occupations and trade. Since Paraskeva is the personification of Good Friday, she is often depicted with the instruments of the passion.
