This beautiful Orthodox icon depicts Saint Paraskeva Friday, one of the most beloved women saints in Christian tradition. Known in Greek as Paraskevi (“Friday”), she symbolizes the holiness of Good Friday, which is why she is often portrayed with the instruments of Christ’s Passion.

The icon is based on an original 16th-century masterpiece, now preserved in the Cherepovets Art Museum.

Who is Saint Paraskeva?

Paraskeva was a Christian woman of great courage who suffered martyrdom during the brutal persecutions under Emperor Diocletian. Refusing to renounce Christ, she was beheaded in Iconium, becoming a Great Martyr of the Church.
