In 1917, in the small village of Fatima, Portugal, the Virgin Mary appeared to three shepherd children—Lucia dos Santos and her cousins Francisco and Jacinta Marto. The apparitions occurred monthly from May 13 to October 13, 1917, during a time of war, social unrest, and spiritual crisis.

The Blessed Virgin asked the children to:

Pray the Rosary daily for peace and the end of the war
Offer sacrifices for the conversion of sinners
Practice repentance and trust in God’s mercy

She revealed prophetic messages—later known as the Three Secrets of Fatima—concerning the suffering of the world, the trials of the Church, and the need for prayer and consecration.

The final apparition on October 13, 1917, was witnessed by tens of thousands of people and culminated in the Miracle of the Sun, when the sun appeared to dance in the sky, confirming the truth of the children’s testimony.
