Saint John Maximovitch of Tobolsk (1651–1715) was a prominent hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church and a significant spiritual leader of the 17th–18th centuries. Known for his deep theological knowledge, missionary efforts, and pastoral care, he served as Metropolitan of Tobolsk and all Siberia.

He was born in the Cossack lands and educated at the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, a renowned Orthodox theological school. His intellectual and spiritual formation allowed him to become one of the leading theologians of his time. Saint John was known for his humility, ascetic life, and devotion to the Orthodox faith.

As Metropolitan of Tobolsk, he worked tirelessly to enlighten and support the Christian population of Siberia and to convert indigenous peoples with gentleness and respect. He authored the well-known theological work Iliotropion, which remains influential in Orthodox thought.

Saint John was canonized in 1916 for his holy life, miracles, and writings that continue to guide generations of Orthodox believers. He is remembered as a bridge between the wisdom of Kyiv and the spiritual needs of Siberia.
