Wooden Icon Warrior Saint Alexander Nevsky (Aleksandr)
Alexander Nevsky, canonized in 1547, was the Grand Prince of Vladimir and Novgorod during the 13th century. His skillful defense of Russian territories against both Eastern and Western invaders secured the nation's territorial integrity, and remains a beacon of courage and faith to this day. In an age of political unrest, Nevsky's military prowess and diplomatic finesse prevented foreign subjugation; his submission to the Tatar khan allowed for the preservation of Novgorod and other Russian lands. Thus, Nevsky's selfless protection of his people has solidified his legacy as a holy warrior and defender of his nation.
Christ revealed you, O Blessed Alexander
As a new and glorious worker of wonders;
A man and a prince well pleasing to God
And a divine treasure of the Russian Land.
Today we assemble in faith and love
To glorify the Lord by joyously remembering you.
He granted you the grace of healing,
Therefore entreat Him to strengthen your suffering spiritual children,
And to save all Orthodox Christians.
