This remarkable Russian Orthodox icon, created around 1900 and attributed to the Dikarev workshop, represents an outstanding example of late 19th–early 20th century icon painting. Executed with exceptional artistic refinement, it reflects the highest traditions of the Moscow school of iconography.
At the center of the composition stands the Guardian Angel, a heavenly protector appointed by God to guide and safeguard every Christian soul. Surrounding the Angel is an assembly of twelve revered saints, forming a spiritual family of intercessors before the throne of God. Above them, two angels solemnly hold the Holy Mandylion (Christ Not Made by Hands), affirming the living presence of Christ and His divine blessing upon the saints and all who pray before the icon.
The icon is distinguished by its refined painting technique and harmonious color palette. The background transitions gracefully from deep blue to luminous light blue, creating a sense of heavenly depth. Rich gold highlights and delicate gilded accents lend the figures a radiant, spiritual glow characteristic of the finest Russian icons of this period. Each saint is rendered with individual expression, dignity, and theological clarity.
