Wooden Icon of the Entombment of Jesus Christ (“Don’t cry for Me, Mother”)

The central part of the composition is dominated by the monumental figure of the Virgin Mary with her hands folded in prayer. Her long hair falls freely over her shoulders, only partially covered by a burgundy-red maforion. In front of her is an open sarcophagus with the dead body of Christ; on the sides are Saints Joseph and Nicodemus, bending over the body of Christ and surrounded by angels watching what is happening. The medallions in the upper corners depict the instruments of the Passion of Christ: a cross, a crown of thorns, a spear, a cane, a cup, dice and a ladder.

The title “Do not weep for Me, Mother” refers to a passage from the liturgy for Holy Saturday, compiled by Cosmas Mayumsky: “Do not weep for me, Mother, seeing in the tomb a son conceived without a seed in the womb, For I will rise and be glorified as God, whom I will exalt with everlasting glory those who magnify you with faith and love.”

The icon is made by printing on a wooden board. Paints are mineral, do not fade with time. The thickness of the board is 2 cm. The board is covered with priemer by hand. The image is covered with wax. Each icon has a metal mount on the back side so that you can hang the icon on the wall.
