Icon of the Physical Labor of the Holy Family
Icon of the Physical Labor of the Holy Family
The Icon Is The Physical Labor Of The Holy Family.
The plot comes from the apocryphal book "about Joseph the Carpenter", Chapter 11. The Mother of God spun "real purple and crimson" for the veil of the Jerusalem temple. "Joseph, ... having taken up the craft of a carpenter, was fed by the labor of his hands, as prescribed by the Law of Moses, for he never received sustenance from the labors of others." (ch. 11). Iconography has been more common in Western painting since the Renaissance.
The icon is made by printing on a wooden board. Paints are mineral, do not fade with time. The thickness of the board is 2 cm. The board is covered with soil by hand. The image is covered with wax. Each icon has a metal mount on the back side so that you can hang the icon on the wall.
