Wooden Icon of Saint Naum of Ohrid, Equal to the Apostles
Equal to the Apostles Naum of Ohrid († 910) - disciple of Saints Cyril and Methodius and collaborator of Saint Clement of Ohrid. Together with Saint Clement, they were nicknamed “the new Moses and Aaron.” In Germany they were captured and imprisoned, but by God’s wave the prison shook, the chains fell off the prisoners and they freely left the place of their imprisonment.
Subsequently, when Clement carried the holy labors of Ohrid, Saint Naum built the Archangel Monastery on the southern shore of Lake Ohrid, which for centuries became a source of fortress and a refuge for the poor and disabled. Many monks gathered around him because he was a wise mentor, a strict ascetic, a miracle worker and a man of prayer. He worked tirelessly to translate the Holy Scriptures into the Slavic language.
Saint Naum reposed on December 23, 910 and was buried in the monastery he founded. Miracles have been performed from the relics of Saint Naum to this day.
