Wooden Icon of Saint Martyr Felicitas of Rome and Guardian Angel
The holy martyr Felicitas (Felicata) came from a wealthy Roman family and had seven sons: Jannuarius, Felix, Philip, Silvanus, Alexander, Vitalius and Marcial. She was accused by the priests of insulting the gods due to the spread of the Christian faith. Saint Felicatas renounced her property and openly professed faith in Christ together with her sons. They were all tortured. Seeing the suffering of her sons, Saint Felicatas prayed to God that they would persevere in their feat and enter the Kingdom of Heaven before her. All sons died a martyr's death before the eyes of their mother. After them, Saint Felicatas herself suffered a martyr’s death. This holy family suffered in Rome around the year 164. Saint Gregory the Dialogist dedicated words of praise to the martyr Felitsata in the third conversation, delivered in the temple named in her honor.
