Holy Right-Believing Princes Boris and Gleb. Wooden orthodox icon.
Holy Blessed Princes and Passion-Bearers Boris and Gleb (in Holy Baptism – Roman and David). They were the youngest sons of the Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Prince Vladimir. They were raised in Christian piety. The eldest of the brothers, Boris, received a good education. He loved to read the Holy Scriptures, the works of the Holy Fathers, and especially the lives of the saints.
Saint Gleb was raised with his brother from early childhood and shared his desire to devote his life exclusively to serving God. Both brothers were distinguished by mercy and kindness of heart, imitating the example of the Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Grand Prince Vladimir, merciful and responsive to the poor, sick, and disadvantaged.
They both died at the hands of their older brother Svyatopolk, not wanting to raise their hands against their blood brother.
Good brothers are highly revered in Russia. They are especially prayed to during civil strife, pray for reconciliation with offenders, for peace in the family.
