The Saint Sophia of Rome icon honors the holy widow Sophia and her three daughters—Faith, Hope, and Love—who lived in the 2nd century during the reign of Emperor Hadrian (117–138). Saint Sophia, whose name means “wisdom,” raised her daughters in steadfast Christian faith, teaching them to love God above all earthly things. When the family’s Christian faith became known to the emperor, they courageously confessed their belief in Christ before him, refusing to offer sacrifice to pagan gods, despite threats and cruel tortures.

Her daughters—Faith (12), Hope (10), and Love (9)—were subjected to unimaginable sufferings and martyred for their unwavering devotion. Saint Sophia endured the profound grief of losing her children, comforting their souls, burying their remains, and grieving over them until the Lord granted her a peaceful death. Their example demonstrates that spiritual strength and courage, sustained by God’s grace, transcend physical weakness and worldly trials.

The icon is made on an MDF wooden base, printed with mineral pigment inks, and protected with natural beeswax.

The image is created using direct artistic multi-layer printing with mineral pigments, then protected with beeswax for durability.

The icon board is prepared by hand, and the back side is finished manually with a brush.

This method allows us to achieve museum-quality reproduction, which is only possible using professional equipment.
