The Holy Martyr Nazarius of Milan (also known as Nazarius of Rome) is remembered as one of the courageous early Christians who fearlessly preached Christ during the persecutions of Emperor Nero (54–68 AD). Born in Rome to the Christian Perpetua and Africanus, he was baptized by Bishop Linus and dedicated his life from youth to proclaiming the Gospel and supporting imprisoned believers.

His journey led him to Milan, where he comforted Christians suffering for their faith. There he met the holy twins Gervasius and Protasius, sons of wealthy Roman converts who had given everything to the poor and embraced a life of prayer and fasting. Imprisoned for Christ, the brothers gained Nazarius as a compassionate helper who tended to their needs. For this act of mercy, pagans beat him and expelled him from Milan.

Nazarius continued preaching in Gaul, where he baptized a young boy named Celsus, who later became his devoted disciple. Together, they endured brutal tortures—wild beasts refused to touch them, the sea could not drown them, and even the soldiers sent to kill them were so moved by their faith that they converted to Christianity.

Returning to Milan, Nazarius and Celsus visited Saints Gervasius and Protasius once more. When Emperor Nero learned of their continued ministry, he ordered their execution. Saints Nazarius and Celsus were beheaded, followed by the martyrdom of Gervasius and Protasius.
