Saint Myron of Crete is revered in the Orthodox Church as a holy hierarch and wonderworker, a living example of Christian mercy, humility, and love for one’s neighbor. In his youth, Saint Myron was a married man and a simple farmer, known throughout Crete for his kindness and generosity. He helped all who came to him in need, never turning anyone away.

One well-known episode from his life reveals the depth of his compassion. When Saint Myron discovered thieves stealing grain from his threshing floor, he did not accuse or punish them. Instead, he quietly helped them lift the heavy sacks onto their shoulders. Overwhelmed by such mercy, the thieves repented and thereafter lived honest and upright lives. Through this act, Saint Myron showed that love and humility can transform hearts more powerfully than judgment.

Because of his virtuous life, the people of Crete urged Saint Myron to accept ordination. He was first made a priest in his native city of Ravkia and later elected Bishop of Crete. As a wise and gentle shepherd, he guided his flock with patience and faith. For his righteousness, the Lord granted him the gift of miracles. According to tradition, Saint Myron once stopped the raging waters of the Triton River during a flood, crossed it safely, and later commanded the river to flow again.

Saint Myron departed peacefully to the Lord at the age of one hundred, around the year 350, leaving behind a legacy of holiness, compassion, and quiet strength. Believers turn to Saint Myron in prayer for help in times of hardship, for the softening of hardened hearts, and for guidance in living a life of mercy and faith.
