This sacred Orthodox icon depicts Saint Nino (Saint Nina), Equal-to-the-Apostles, who brought the light of the Gospel to Georgia and converted the nation to Christianity. Niece of the Jerusalem Patriarch Juvenaly, Saint Nina devoted her life to God from a young age and longed to enlighten those who had not yet embraced the true faith.

Receiving a divine vision of the Mother of God handing her a cross made of grapevines, Saint Nina fled the persecution of Emperor Diocletian and journeyed to Iberia (present-day Georgia). There, she healed the sick, performed miracles, and preached Christ with unwavering devotion. Her efforts led to the conversion of King Marian (Meroy), Queen Sophia, and countless inhabitants of Georgia, establishing the foundations of the Christian Church in the region.

Saint Nina spent her final years in prayer and solitude, glorifying God for the salvation of the Georgian people. She passed peacefully on January 14, 335, leaving behind a legacy of faith, miracles, and the spread of Christianity.
