St. Cyril came from a noble and pious Christian family. He studied secular sciences, including philosophy, but most of all he strove to acquire knowledge of the Holy Scriptures and the truths of the Christian faith. In his youth, St. Cyril entered the skete of St. Macarius in the Nitrian mountains, where he stayed for six years. Patriarch Theophilus of Alexandria (385-412) ordained him to the rank of deacon, enrolled him in the clergy and, seeing his talent, entrusted him with preaching.
After the death of Patriarch Theophilus, St. Cyril was unanimously elected to the patriarchal throne of the Church of Alexandria. Removing from his flock the enemies of the holy faith - Jews and pagans, St. Cyril also cared about strengthening his flock in faith and piety. His fiery zeal for the purity of Christian teaching and unwavering firmness in defending the faith were especially evident in his struggle with Nestorius, who had upset the Church with his heresy. Saint Cyril wrote an exhortatory letter to Nestorius and letters to Emperor Theodosius the Younger, Pope Celestine I and various monasteries, refuting the opinions of Nestorius and setting forth the true Christian teaching on the incarnation of the Son of God. At the Third Ecumenical Council, convened in 431 in the city of Ephesus, Saint Cyril was the chairman. The saint died in 444.
The icon is made by printing on a wooden board. Paints are mineral, do not fade with time. The thickness of the board is 2 cm. The board is covered with primer by hand. The image is covered with wax. Each icon has a metal mount on the back side so that you can hang the icon on the wall.
