Wooden Icon of the Mother of God of Okonsk (Okonskaya)

In the village of Lyskovo, Nizhny Novgorod province, there is a revered icon known as Okonskaya. She is highly revered among local residents and is considered miraculous.

Local residents testify to the many healings received thanks to the Okonsk Icon of the Mother of God. One of the stories tells about a peasant woman who lost her husband and was forced to do all the peasant work herself to provide for her farm and family. While working in the field, she suddenly fell ill. The first symptoms were redness in her fingers and toes, and soon she lost the ability to walk and felt severe pain in her arms. In this state, she tried to be treated with home remedies, but, seeing that it did not bring results, she turned to the Mother of God with fervent prayer. And she received healing. Gradually the pain began to subside and her ability to walk was restored. After some time, she again freely performed all peasant work.

The icon clearly shows that this happened in the house of a peasant woman, and this emphasizes the significance of this moment in the image.

The icon is made by printing on a wooden board. Paints are mineral, do not fade with time. The thickness of the board is 2 cm. The board is covered with soil by hand. The image is covered with wax. Each icon has a metal mount on the back side so that you can hang the icon on the wall.
