Wooden Icon of the Ascension of the Lord Jesus Christ by Andrei Rublev
The Ascension of the Lord takes place on the fortieth day after Easter, so it always falls on Thursday. The event of the Ascension is described in the Gospels of Mark, Luke and the Acts of the Apostles, which say that after His Resurrection, within forty days, the Lord Jesus Christ appeared to the apostles more than once, teaching them the basics of building the Church and spreading the true faith. On the fortieth day, when the last such phenomenon took place, the Lord, having given the disciples a promise of the imminent sending down to the world of the Holy Spirit - the third Person of the Holy Trinity - led the disciples from Jerusalem to the Mount of Olives on the road to Bethany and, blessing them, began to ascend to heaven, “and a cloud took Him out of their sight.”
The icon is made by printing on a wooden board. Paints are mineral, do not fade with time. The thickness of the board is 2 cm. The board is covered with primer by hand. The image is covered with wax. Each icon has a metal mount on the back side so that you can hang the icon on the wall.
You can buy the icon in three sizes:
- 13 х 9 centimeters (5,1 x 3,5 inches)
- 19 х 14 centimeters (7,5 x 5,5 inches)
- 26 х 19 centimeters (10,2 x 7,5 inches)
Our icons are made by Orthodox craftsmen. You can read more about the technology here.
We hope it will be a good gift for you and your loved ones.
