Wooden Icon “Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos” Nevyansk School. Features the birth of the Virgin Mary, a moment of divine joy.
This 19th-century Orthodox icon belongs to the renowned Nevyansk iconographic school, famous for its highly detailed painting, vibrant colors, and gold embellishments. Nevyansk icons are distinguished by their exceptional craftsmanship, influenced by both Old Believer traditions and classical Russian iconography.
This particular icon of the Nativity of the Theotokos captures the joyful event of the birth of the Virgin Mary, featuring her parents, Saints Joachim and Anna, surrounded by attendants and angelic visions. Above, Christ blesses the scene, symbolizing the divine plan for Mary’s role in salvation.
The inscription at the bottom is in Church Slavonic, including the year written in an Old Believer numerical system (АWНГ), which corresponds to 1853 in modern dating. This confirms its authenticity as a genuine 19th-century religious artifact.
The Nevyansk school’s refined use of gold, precise facial expressions, and rich ornamental framing make this icon a true collector’s piece and a sacred object of veneration.
The icon is made by printing on a wooden board (mdf). Paints are mineral, do not fade with time. The thickness of the board is 1,6 cm. The board is covered with primer. The image is covered with wax. Each icon has a metal mount on the back side so that you can hang the icon on the wall.
