This Orthodox icon depicts Saint Prophet Elijah (Elijah the Tishbite) in the wilderness, one of the greatest prophets of the Old Testament. Living in the 9th century BC during the reign of the Israelite kings Ahab and Ahaziah, Prophet Elijah fearlessly proclaimed the will of God and defended the true faith against idolatry. Born in Tishbe of Gilead, he became the spiritual teacher of the prophet Elisha, to whom he later passed on the gift of prophecy.

The icon traditionally shows Saint Elijah in solitude, emphasizing his ascetic life, prayer, and complete trust in God. In Holy Scripture, Elijah is revealed as a prophet endowed with divine power over the elements: through his word, a severe drought came upon the land as a warning to the wicked King Ahab. For his righteousness and unwavering faith, the prophet was taken bodily into heaven in a fiery chariot—an event understood by the Church as a foreshadowing of Christ’s Resurrection and Ascension, as well as a sign of the continuity between the Old and New Testaments.

In Orthodox tradition, Saint Elijah is especially revered as a powerful intercessor, a model of zeal for God, and a witness to divine authority over creation. This icon serves as a reminder of steadfast faith, repentance, and the living presence of God in the world.

The icon is made on an MDF wooden base, printed with mineral pigment inks, and protected with natural beeswax.

The image is created using direct artistic multi-layer printing with mineral pigments, then protected with beeswax for durability.

The icon board is prepared by hand, and the back side is finished manually with a brush.

This method allows us to achieve museum-quality reproduction, which is only possible using professional equipment.
