Holy Martyr Mamas of Caesarea (Cappadocia). Wooden orthodox icon.
For his confession of faith, Emperor Aurelian (270-275) subjected Mamas to cruel torture. They wanted to drown him, but an Angel saved Mamas and ordered him to live on a high mountain in the desert, not far from Caesarea.
The saint built a small church there, animals from the desert came to him and listened to the reading of the Holy Gospel. He himself ate the milk of wild goats and deer. His fame spread throughout Caesarea. He was brought to trial and given to be eaten by animals, but they did not touch the Saint. Then one priest struck him with a trident. Mortally wounded, he retreated to a stone cave, where he died.
He was buried by Christians on this site in 275. Later, a temple was built there, where the relics of Saint Mamas are kept.
Saint Mamas is the patron saint of goats, sheep, and cats.
The icon is made by printing on a wooden board. Paints are mineral, do not fade with time. The thickness of the board is 2 cm. The board is covered with primer by hand. The image is covered with wax. Each icon has a metal mount on the back side so that you can hang the icon on the wall.
