Holy Great Martyr of the Goths Nikita (Nicetas) the Demon-Banisher. Wooden orthodox icon.
The Holy Great Martyr Nikita was one of the holy warrior martyrs widely venerated in Byzantium and Rus'. According to his Life, he came from the Gothic tribes and was converted to Christianity by Bishop Theophilus, a participant in the First Ecumenical Council of 325. When, as a result of internecine wars among the Goths, pagans came to power, Saint Nikita was captured, tortured, and burned at the stake in 372.
