Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Wooden orthodox icon
Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Wooden orthodox icon
Icon of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ
The Gospels tell of Christ's suffering on the Cross and his subsequent burial in a tomb, donated by Joseph of Arimathea. Three days later, Jesus broke the bonds of Death through his resurrection from the grave. This is affirmed by the Nicene-Constantinopolitan Creed and is celebrated every year on Pascha and each Sunday. Believing in the Resurrection is fundamental to Christianity as it confirms the validity of Christ's mission and his dual nature as both God and Man. Paul described Jesus as the "New Adam," restoring life to humanity. Biblical prophecies, such as Hosea's, also foretell the Resurrection: "After two days He shall revive us: in the third day He will raise us up, and we shall live in His sight."
