📚 What is gesso and why is it important?
Levkas is an icon-painting primer prepared according to ancient recipes from natural ingredients.
It gives the image luminosity, depth and plasticity, and the multi-layer structure perfectly reflects light. It is levkas that allows you to achieve an internal glow of the icon - a visual effect comparable to hand-painted iconography.
Why not canvas or paper?
Canvas and paper are short-lived, do not convey brightness and volume. It is impossible to achieve resistance to deformation and light on them.
Levkas, on the other hand, preserves the shape of the icon board, protects the image and at the same time makes it come alive.
