Wooden Icon of Saints Theodore Stratilates, Florus and Laurus
The martyrs Florus and Laurus were siblings. They successfully preached among the pagans, which was facilitated by miracles, including the healing of the son of a pagan priest, which brought both the healed man and his father to Christ. Once upon a time, the ruler of the Balkan Illyricum sent the holy brothers, as famous masons, to build a pagan temple. In the newly built temple, Florus and Laurus, together with the Christians they had converted, prayed, after which they destroyed the pagan idols. All participants in these events were captured and burned, and Flor and Laurus were thrown into a well and covered with earth. Subsequently, their relics were found incorrupt and transferred to Constantinople.
The martyrs Florus and Laurus received from God the special grace to pray and help animals. And in our Russian history, when there was a death of livestock in Novgorod, after prayers to the holy martyrs Florus and Laurus, this pestilence stopped, and since then in Rus' these saints began to be especially revered as patrons of animals.
Theodore Stratilates is one of the most revered Christian saints, the heavenly patron of the Orthodox army.
