Wooden Icon of Saint Cyril of Jerusalem
Father of the Church, Bishop of Jerusalem (350-386), ascetic, preacher, who tried to raise the importance of Jerusalem as the center of the entire Christian church. Jerusalem at that time was subordinate to the Metropolitan of Caesarea, which did not suit St. Kirill. Three times he was deposed at the initiative of the Bishop of Caesarea Akakios, who demanded that Cyril accept Arianism. On the occasion of a heavenly sign - a vision of the Cross of the Lord in the sky over Jerusalem on the feast of Pentecost in 351, Cyril sent a "Message to the pious king Constantius." Cyril spent a lot of energy on pacifying the Jerusalem flock and fighting heretics, against whom he signed a condemnation at the Second Ecumenical Council.
