Great Martyr Nicetas (Nikitas) with Scenes from His Life. Wooden orthodox icon.

Original icon: 1668. Comes from the Murom St. George Church. Contribution of the "Murom tradesman" Sidor Matveevich Lopatin. Restored in the Murom Museum by I. I. Tyulin in 1936. Now located in the Murom Historical and Art Museum.

The Holy Great Martyr Nikita was one of the holy warrior martyrs widely venerated in Byzantium and Rus'. According to his Life, he came from the Gothic tribes and was converted to Christianity by Bishop Theophilus, a participant in the First Ecumenical Council of 325. When, as a result of internecine wars among the Goths, pagans came to power, Saint Nikita was captured, tortured and burned at the stake in 372. On Russian soil, along with the canonical Life of Saint Nikita of Gothia, from the 14th-15th centuries, A translated apocryphal “The Torment of Nikita” was distributed, containing a number of miraculous details that were reflected in this icon.

The icon is made by printing on a wooden board. Paints are mineral, do not fade with time. The thickness of the board is 2 cm. The board is covered with primer by hand. The image is covered with wax. Each icon has a metal mount on the back side so that you can hang the icon on the wall.

You can buy the icon in three sizes:

  • 13 х 7 centimeters (5,1 x 2,8 inches)
  • 19 х 12 centimeters (7,5 x 4,7 inches)
  • 26 х 16 centimeters (10,2 x 6,3 inches)

Our icons are made by Orthodox craftsmen. You can read more about the technology here.

We hope it will be a good gift for you and your loved ones.
