Wooden Icon of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker of Myra 13th century (Nikola Lipny)

1294. Stored in the Novgorod Historical and Architectural Museum, Russia

On either side of St. Nicholas's head are full-length figures of Jesus Christ and the Virgin Mary, handing the saint the Gospel and an omophorion in memory of the miracle that occurred at the First Ecumenical Council.

On the margins of the icon are figures of angels and saints:

on the upper margin, the etimasia surrounded by half-figures of the Archangels Michael and Gabriel and the Apostles;

On the side margins (in pairs from top to bottom) in full growth:

Basil the Great and Gregory the Theologian,
John Chrysostom and Hypatius,
Cyril of Alexandria and Athanasius of Alexandria,
Boris and Gleb,
George and Demetrius,
Florus and Laurus,
Cosmas and Damian.

The icon is made by printing on a wooden board. Paints are mineral, do not fade with time. The thickness of the board is 2 cm. The board is covered with primer by hand. The image is covered with wax. Each icon has a metal mount on the back side so that you can hang the icon on the wall.
