Saint Anthony the Great or Father of All Monks. Wooden orthodox icon. Anthony of Egypt, Anthony of the Desert, Anthony the Anchorite.
St. Anthony, known as the "Father" of all monks, was a devout follower of Jesus who dedicated his life to poverty and solitude. Selling all his possessions and giving the proceeds to the poor, he retreated to the desert, living a humble and unassuming life. Despite having no prestigious titles or positions, his profound wisdom earned him great respect. He even participated in the Synod of Nicea and his passionate defense of Orthodox doctrine played a key role in the decline of Arianism. Wishing to avoid any veneration of his body, St. Anthony instructed his disciples to bury him in an undisclosed location. His teachings and monastic rules have since served as a foundation for numerous monasteries.
