Saint Paulinus is also known as a temple builder and a Christian poet. He died at the age of 78 on June 22, 431. He left behind several hymns and letters containing various moral instructions, imbued with deep piety. His relics are kept in Rome, in the Church of the Holy Apostle Bartholomew.

Saint Paulinus the Merciful is considered the patron saint of bell ringers.
