This image is well-known among all schoolchildren, students, and parents of children with mental and speech disabilities. It is believed that miracles have occurred through prayers in front of this icon on multiple occasions.
The iconography of the Mother of God "The Addition of the Mind" originated in the 16th century. It was influenced by Western art, which featured intricate elements and symbolism. On this icon, the Mother of God and the Infant Jesus are portrayed wearing royal crowns, with the Infant holding the Orb in his left hand. The image signifies the heavenly power that is directed towards assisting humanity. The Mother of God and Jesus are dressed in dolmatik, special robes that distinguish this image from traditional ones. The background depicts a starry sky, while angels ascend towards the Mother of God, holding lit candles in their hands. Cherubim and Seraphim hover over the prototype of the Heavenly Jerusalem.
According to tradition, the image appeared thanks to a man who lived during the time of Patriarch Nikon. He had been studying ancient texts, including those of Joseph, but couldn't find the answer to the question of salvation. This question troubled him to the point where his mental state became clouded. In desperation, he prayed to the Mother of God for guidance. In response to his prayers, the Mother of God appeared and instructed him to paint an icon exactly as he had envisioned. The man happened to be an icon painter, and once he completed the task, he was miraculously healed.
