Wooden Icon of the Mother of God of the Three Hands (the Most Holy Theotokos with Three Arms or Three Hands)
When John of Damascus had his hand cut off due to slander against him, he prayed with tears before the icon of the Mother of God that his hand, which wrote spiritual works for the glory of God, would grow back. And the severed hand grew back together during a short sleep. Then John of Damascus, as a sign of gratitude to the Mother of God, hung an image of a silver hand to Her icon, which is why the icon received the name “Three-Handed”, and John of Damascus was given the grace to provide assistance in pain or injury to the hands.
