The Monk Seraphim of Sarov, a miracle worker, who bore the name Prokhor before his tonsure, was born on July 19, 1759, in a pious merchant family from the city of Kursk.
The Monk Seraphim provided spiritual guidance based on the Sacred Writings and the sayings of the pious ascetics of Orthodoxy. His holy life was marked by reverence for martyrs and edification of schismatics. In 1833, he passed away while in prayerful reverence before the icon of the Mother of God "Tenderness", to which he had constantly prayed.
