Jesus Christ, represented as the King by the King and the Great Bishop, sits on the throne. Along the edges of the icon are four evangelists.
The title is borrowed from the Revelation of St. John the Evangelist (Rev. 19:11-17). Christ is presented as the Lord of the kings of the earth, so He is depicted wearing the robe of a ruler, often a mantle. An integral attribute is diadems on the head, an orb, a symbol of peace, crowned with a cross, and a scepter, signifying royal power.
