Saint Peter, a noble prince of Murom, was struck by a severe and mysterious illness. None could heal him—until he met Fevronia, a humble and wise maiden known for her deep faith and spiritual gifts. Through her prayers and healing herbs, the prince was completely restored.
Bound by gratitude and genuine love, Peter chose Fevronia as his wife, despite resistance from the noble class who disapproved of her humble origins. The couple was driven out of Murom by proud boyars, but they accepted the trial with humility and trust in God.
Not long after, the people of Murom recognized their righteousness and begged them to return. As rulers, Peter and Fevronia governed with mercy, justice, and deep Christian love.
After many years of a peaceful and holy life together, they both took monastic vows. They prayed to God to grant them the blessing of departing this life together—and the Lord fulfilled their prayer:
they fell asleep in the Lord on the same day, June 25, 1228, united even in death. Their bodies were found lying together, though they had wished to be buried side by side.
Since then, Saints Peter and Fevronia have been honored as guardians of family, purity, unity, and faithful love.
