He was known for his deep reverence for God and his love for his fellow human beings, working as a physician devoted to healing both the physical and spiritual ailments of others.

He set his hope entirely in Jesus Christ and remained untouched by the allure of worldly glory, spending his days in prayer and fasting, visiting those imprisoned for their faith and offering them comfort. He gave freely of his family's wealth in alms to the poor, and skillfully practiced medicine, striving to heal not only the body but the soul, curing the sick through the grace of Christ while preaching the Gospel and calling all toward a life of virtue.

When the Bishop of Homs, Silvanus, along with the Deacon Luke and the Reader Mocimus, were condemned to death for their faith, Julian felt himself unworthy yet joyful to stand among them, reverently kissing the very chains that bound these confessors of Christ. He was ultimately martyred for his unwavering devotion, and the faithful of Emesa secretly preserved his holy relics, which became, in the centuries that followed, a source of healing and blessing for countless believers.

A great church was later built in his honor in Emesa during the reign of Emperor Theodosius the Great, and his memory has endured through the ages as protector of the city of Homs. Saint Julian is venerated among the Holy Unmercenary Healers, physicians who practiced medicine and offered spiritual healing without charge, out of love for Christ and for their neighbor.

His feast day is celebrated on February 6, with additional commemoration among the Holy Unmercenaries on October 17.

🖼 Product Features

Each icon in our workshop is made to last a lifetime and beyond.
